After months of hard work and preparation, Upper Limits is happy to announce the opening of our third location in West County, St. Louis!

Truly one of the premier gyms in the Midwest, and possibly even the Nation, Upper Limits West County offers St. Louis over 14,000 sq. ft. of climbing surface, complete with 2 giant lead arches and a massive top-out boulder. And we didn't stop there!

It's getting to the point where we are starting to add the finishing touches to the gym. The front desk is being pieced together, the lockers are going into the locker rooms (they wouldn't really be "locker rooms" without them), paint is being touched up around the gym and the pro shop is being set up as we speak!

Be on the lookout for some big announcements to come early next week! Trust us, you won't want to miss it!

The last piece of plywood went up on the framework this week. That means we are ready to start applying the texture to the walls!

We're getting very close to being done!

Not exactly...

Well, Spring somehow skipped over us and Summer appears to be here. It's hot outside, but that won't stop the West County crew from working hard to bring you an amazing new gym..and it's coming sooner than you think!

Day and night, inside and outside, rain and shine...work is being done constantly in West County and we are getting closer every day!

It's really starting to look like a climbing gym out here in Maryland Heights! Rockwerx is putting plywood up on the framework this week.

Progress is being made in the rest of the gym as well. The floors are being tiled, the walls are being painted and the workout room is almost complete!

These are the awesome volumes going up in the new gym. As of now, they are making for some very colorful office decorations.

Things are moving along in Maryland Heights....

Rockwerx got here on Monday the 18th and, despite last week's tumultuous weather, they have made tons of progress!

We were very lucky to escape the tornado that touched down on Friday, and hope that we are done with all of this stormy weather! (for now at least)

Stay tuned for more pictures throughout the week, as Rockwerx continues their expeditious building of the rock walls.

In the meantime, drop into the downtown location and check out the new routes and bouldering problems that were set last week by our amazing setting team!

We announced last week that we would be introducing a FAQ section to our blog and the questions came pouring in! As promised, here they are:

Are plans still to open in early summer 2011?

The roof is going up this week! That means that Rockwerx can begin construction on the walls as planned on April 18th. Construction should take 10-12 weeks, giving us an estimated opening date in late June/early July of this year! The recent progress is very exciting! Stay tuned to our blog for pictures as they come in!

Do you think you'll be holding summer camps at the new location in 2011?

We do not plan on holding summer camps at the Maryland Heights location this year. However, with more climbing space, comes more opportunity for Fall & Winter clinics, children’s classes/activities and much more! If there is a program you would like to see offered at our new location, drop us a line at stlstaff@upperlimits.com.

Do you have any information yet on what membership at West County will cost?

Membership prices for the new gym have not yet been set, but we will be making a decision very soon! Although the annual membership prices will be higher at the new location, it may end up saving money for those who regularly purchase a separate gym membership in addition to their membership to Upper Limits. Cardio and weight equipment being available at the West County location eliminates the need for an additional gym membership.

We are so excited about what the new Upper Limits will be able to offer our members! Separate birthday party/group areas mean that sections of the gym will never be closed due to booked events and a climbers’ lounge and sitting areas will add a whole new social aspect to the indoor climbing scene. This gym will be like nothing else in the Midwest and will be very reminiscent of Colorado climbing gyms.

Daily passes to the new location will most likely remain the same, or very close to, the cost of a daily pass at the downtown location. Group event costs will also be comparable to our existing location. We hope to have our membership prices set in the next month, so check our blog often for more info.

What will the hours be at the new location?

Gym hours at the new location will be the same as downtown for the first month or so. If we find that many people request a change in hours, such as an earlier opening time, we will happily alter our operations to accommodate our members and guests.

The side wall started going up this week, and the roof will go up right after that. Then the fun starts!

Rockwerx will start building the walls when the roof is complete and we will share pictures with you every step of the way.

You can now see the towering 45' walls from Page Ave. Exciting stuff going on at Upper Limits West County!

This tall! The roof structure is UP, and the building if finally starting to look like it could house a rock climbing gym. It's taken a lot of work to get to this point and there's still a ton to do...but this a huge step!

And the roof structure is going up! They lifted the frames inside the building, then picked them up again to put them in place.

...without a roof over our heads! Check back tomorrow for roof pics.

Cort at Rockwerx sent us some pictures of the climbing wall fabrication that's required before the wall build-out at the new gym begins in April. LOTS of sturdy steel beams are needed to support all those cool angles in the new facility!

And with those two words (and a little assistance from some big machinery), the new gym is prepped and ready for its 45-foot walls and new roof!

...also continues. The steel support beams have been reinforced and the roof is GONE! The roof will be raised to 45 feet from the existing 22 feet, and Rockwerx should be able to start constructing the climbing walls the first of April. Stay tuned for more updates!

...thanks to the hard-working Ed, Mike, and Jill! Rooms have been rearranged, firewalls added, and now we're almost ready for new paint, carpet, and tile.

The roof is GONE and the raising of the walls has started. Only 23 feet to go!

No worries! Construction continued as planned at the new location. Concrete was laid for the footings of the building and the climbing wall.
