Frequently Asked Questions

After completing a waiver, every new visitor is guided through a 10-15 minute orientation of the gym by one of our experienced staff members. Participants may then use any of our 10 beginner-friendly autobelays located throughout the gym and our large top-out boulder. We have routes for all levels of difficulty and experience. Though not required, if you would like to learn more about rock climbing and how to belay on our top ropes, the Top Rope 101 class is the best way to begin.

There is no minimum age requirement for climbing in the gym. However, we do require participants 13 and younger to be accompanied by an adult at all times. If an adult is simply accompanying a child and not climbing, the adult does not have to pay (with the exception of Top Rope 101). However, everyone entering the rock climbing area must fill out a waiver. Waivers for minors must be completed by the legal guardian.

Every individual who enters an Upper Limits facility must fill out a waiver. Even if you do not plan on climbing, you must have a waiver on file.

Please visit our pricing section.

We recommend wearing apparel appropriate for exercising or gym activities. Upper Limits requires climbing shoes to be worn at all times while climbing, and harnesses are required for all climbers who intend to use our auto-belays, top ropes, or sport climbing walls. All necessary climbing equipment is available for rent at the front desk.

The Wacky Walls is a kid-themed climbing area at the Chesterfield location that is separate from the bouldering area. Unlike the bouldering (day pass) area, the Wacky Walls run on an hourly schedule. Reservations are required to climb in the Wacky Walls

Yes! We have a combo pass for $28 per climber (harness and climbing shoes included). This gets you an hour in Wacky Walls and the rest of the day bouldering. Once you start your time in Wacky Walls, you cannot go back and forth between the two areas.

Reservations are only required for special groups, classes, and other similar events. However, if you have a group of 8 or more participants visiting at one time, please be courteous and call ahead to communicate so we can expect your arrival.

Day passes and equipment rentals are good for all day. This means you can leave and return as much as you please during the day of your visit. There are no hourly rates available for open climb.

You may! Choose whichever gym you want to buy online or by visiting any of our locations. Gift cards are accepted at all locations.

We do offer special rates for open climb groups of 10 or more people who contact us more than 48 hours before the visit, provide at least one Upper Limits-certified belayer for every 5 climbers, and pay a $5 deposit per climber before the visit. Please contact our team!

Not only do we offer birthday parties, we throw the BEST birthday parties in St. Louis! Reservations are recommended at least 2 weeks in advance, as spots fill up quickly. You can get more information about our parties, including pricing, by clicking here.

We LOVE hosting scout troops at Upper Limits and we have tons of options for scout leaders to bring a group in, including Group Adventures, Team Building, discounted Youth Nights, and Group Top Rope 101 classes. No matter the experience, every new visitor must complete a 10-15 minute orientation of our facility. To top-rope belay in our facility, you must request a belay test from one of our available staff members as soon as you arrive. The test comes with a small fee and takes anywhere from 10-20 minutes, so please come prepared. You will need to demonstrate proper belay technique with an ‘ATC’ style belay device, tie-in with a figure-eight knot, and demonstrate proper use of climbing commands and safety checks. After completing a waiver, orientation, and belay check, you will be free to belay and climb in our facility. A lead climbing test may be completed at no charge directly after passing the top-rope test.
